Mossie(Johannes Mostert) was born in Namibia in 1965. He served as a policeman for 15 years. After that he went to the United Kingdom for three years and then returned to Cape Town.

Mossie comes from a farming background – he used to work on farms for extra income whilst in the force. In 2003, his brother, Johan, gave him a Green Indian Ringneck as a gift. She was named PIA (short for their business at the time – Painters in Action). It was then realized that she was a he that grew into a magnificent male with an outstanding ring around her neck. The same year Mossie received a female Blue and Gold Macaw (Shirley) for his birthday and the following year, a male (Seun). In that year, Mossie left his job, when one night, it became clear that he could follow his dream of fulfilling his passion for farming his feathered friends.
